P1  ‘Threshold’

– kayaks centre next to River Don, Sheffield

To punctuating a local walking and cycling route in Sheffield along River Don, a further walk from Sheffield city centre is being developed that privades more opportunities for kayaks activities. The project is  a design for kayaks centre with consideration of threshold. Initial idea of building nature into architecture inspired me to create semi-circle plan with consideration of  site context. For outside view of kayaks centre, it seems like tree grows up within this semi-circle building. Public spaces which include administration, kayaks storage, cafe, outdoor drying space locate on ground floor, and showering rooms with locker facilities are the first floor. The threshold of building is focusing on how occupants moves from wet space to dry area.

P2  ‘Perform’

a theatre for children in Hillsborough, Sheffield

The site, located at Bustling High street of Hillsborough where has plenty of commercial spaces with efficient transportation. Front box office and back theatre space are seperate from central outdoor playground  which looks like two unrelated buildings but linked by underground bar. This design forms a small  building in the front,  higher buildings behind and outdoor playground which creates a interesting notable appearance. The building form creates the way from front box office walk down to the bar and go up to performing space.
