YEAR 2 PORTFOLIO

Second Year has been a conduit for the exploration of new ideas and techniques. Engaging with these projects with the aid of sketching, modelling and computer aided design has allowed my work to evolve over the year, along with the development of my own style and representational methods.

 PROJECT 1: OBSERVATORY

In collaboration with Chloe Clacy

An astronomical observatory; a scheme devised to enhance the star gazing experience. The project aims to strip back the activity to its basics by allowing users to operate a series of portable telescopes within multiple personal enclosed spaces.

PROJECT 2: LIBRARY

An ‘unsong’ library: a library for controversial books. The library aims to hold a series of books addressing both political and cultural issues as an homage to Ancoats’ social history.

PROJECT 3: HOUSING

Unit House: This project aims to incorporate flexible design by creating four unit houses. Each unit initially contains three separate dwellings which have the ability to grow in size by merging into each other. Working on the basis of cyclical timescales of living, growing families will be able to increase their house size whilst working professionals can live on a short term basis as a first home. The scheme involves a temporary market space which acts as an extension of the neighbouring community centre, created for the residents and the public.
