The vertical elements are made from Nickel (same material as flutes), because of their acoustic resonating qualities and light weight. Nickel only weathers after a seriously long time in wet weather, and this is only a tarnish which can be easily polished out. They are attached by pivoting clamps which are bolted through the Corten steel facade. Clamps were chosen so the vibrations don’t travel through the building and so they can be maintained easily.

Some of the elements are hollow with various holes so visitors can physically change the note the facade plays as the wind blows, much like a flute.
