 ♦ P1 | THE MEMORY KAYAK CENTRE ♦

The Kayak centre is located in Club Mill road, Sheffield. After a visit to the site, I was inspired by the various natural forms and the interesting derelict places found within this land. The site was pure, very different to the surroundings which were left unused. The river Don runs along the site and it is what links many areas together. It is a precious source for kayaking. The Memory Kayak centre design focuses on memories and journeys towards these memories. Life is all about cherishing and creating memories so this centre isn’t just for people interested in kayaking, anyone is welcome and they have access to the 24/7 opened self catered cafe. The kayak centre is hidden within this land with the use of mirrors so it is up to one’s eye to find this mysterious building and create a new memory in this kayak centre. The building becomes visible the closer you go near it. The mirrors echo the surroundings trees hence, blending with nature.

 ♦ P2 | THE WORLD’S THEATRE ♦

The World’s Theatre is located in Sharrow vale (Sheffield, South Yorkshire). After analysing the site, I realised the site needed a bit more diversity. This is when the World’s theatre started to grow. The design promotes diversity and cultural performing arts attracting no particular audience, but everyone. This also aims to teach people about cultures in a fun lively way! Cultural performing arts are brought together in this architectural piece. audience. The irregularities of this theatre represent people and how different we are from one another. The flowing irregular holes within the front façade also represent the growing diversity and generations today. During the night, they will glow and liven up the theatre, showing that the world is filled with amazing identities.

 ♦ P3 | GLEADLESS APARTMENTS ♦

Gleadless Apartments are located in Heeley, Sheffield. This housing project aims to accommodate families, young couples and elderly people forming an intergenerational community. From my experience, living is about uniting with nature and experiencing multiculturalism. The quality of one’s lifestyle is important. The aim of Gleadless apartments is to provide the intergenerational and diverse community a comfortable and affordable environment to live in as well as improving the quality of life and upbringing of children. The proposal also aims to bring the community together by holding a seasonal market. The market is intended to be set up for the whole neighbourhood by the local residents and their grown vegetables and fruits will be sold. The residents will work together to grow these crops and sell them. Moreover, Heeley‘s famous Brothers’ Arms pub will be refurbished into an atmospheric cafe allowing the residents to hold events and help boost this newly opening ‘Gleadless Market’ into a seasonal event!
