The scheme consists of 2 floors, with a central void acting as a way to connect the user to spaces and site. There are rock walls which grow from the existing paths, forming a path that continues through the building. The ground floor offers an accommodation block so professionals can work in the observatory for extended periods of time. There is a shared kitchen which leads from the accommodation into the main space, which is intended to be used as a flexible space. It may be empty and used simply for observation, alternatively it offers space for exhibitions, lectures or meetings. On the first floor is the opportunity for a long-term exhibition space, where professionals can display their work for users to look at before stepping out onto the observation deck. Alongside the telescopes provided on the observation deck (inspired by Oberon’s Observatory), there is a professional telescope inside, primarily for the professionals, but also for the public events (inspired by the Kielder Observatory).
