My housing design scheme is based on a shared central courtyard between the community and the garden centre. The raised beds in front of the houses and the garden centre are places where food can be grown. These raised beds have an advantage of free-draining soil, which is especially good for roots such as carrots and parsnips. It also warms up faster in spring which results in earlier crops.
The residence of the houses can choose to either grow their own food or let the garden centre take care of their planting beds. The food and flowers grown will then be sold or cooked in the kitchen area in front of the pub. Other residences of Heeley are free to use the kitchen as long as they bring their own food to cook. The seating area can either function as display area or an event area for the pub’s beer garden to spill out.
